An SMS keyword is a word tag that customers can text to a long code or an SMS shortcode for your customers to communicate with your business.

For instance, if you'd like to know of customers interested in a DEMO of your product or services, they can be informed in an SMS campaign to reply “DEMO” to 12121 where the keyword is "DEMO" and shortcode is 12121.

To make use of keywords, you can create an opt-in (“Contacts --> Opt-ins --> Create Opt-in”) and set up SMS keywords for a number. You can use these keywords in an SMS campaign or display them on your website. All the customer replies with the chosen keywords will be shown in the inbox and can also be added to a list.

In the example below, all customer replies that are START, JOIN or DEMO to +447451271105 will be shown in the inbox, and added to the target list "exampleoptin".
